[35] letters of thanks and requests to Ezrat Torah, most of them from the She'erit HaPleita in Europe. 1947-1949.
Content of the letters: e writers note their su ering during the Holocaust, their present di culties, the vital need for sup- port for their physical and spiritual needs, give thanks for the assistance and ask for further support. e letters are replete with words of faith and tzidduk hadin, Torah thoughts, details about the needy and more. e letters are important historical documents which attest to the tremendous aid and rescue work of Ezrat Torah, in the years following the Second World War.
Among the writers are: the Agudat Rabbanim in Austria, Rabbi Yirmi [?] Braun from the DP Camp IT77 in Milan, Rebbetzin Rachel Frankel, Rabbi Amram Schwartz, [Rabbi] Yaakov Yosef Sheinfeld, Rabbi Yoel Yom Tov [?] who is in‘a camp in the land of Amalek,׳ Rabbi Yosef Katz HaCohen, rabbi in the Tradesman׳s Center and the “Geulat Yisrael״ synagogue in Tel Aviv, Rabbi Shlomo Weiss who was in Germany, Pinchas Wilder from Sweden, Rabbi David Frankfurter the grandson of the righteous rabbi, Rabbi Amram Taub, rabbi of Reichenhall in Germany, Kibbutz “Chafetz Chaim״ in the Eschwege DP Camp, Rabbi Chaim Leib Bro Zacks, Rabbi Yisrael Chaim Berkowitz who was in Bamberg, Rabbi Meshulam Shraga Feivush Halpstein who was in Germany, Rabbi Matel Landmau of Romania, Avraham Grossman, Avraham son of Yechiel Meir Langleben who was in Rivoli in Italy, Rabbi David Schpitzer who writes from Košice, Yitzchak Klein and Mordechai Eliezer Dambitzer writing from Paris, Rabbi Yoel Zev Segal Halpert of the congre- gation Esh V׳Hagalil. Menachem Adler of Marienbad, Shemel Yuldman of the United States, and more.
e following documents are added to the lot:
* Schedule for four departments [classes].
* Postcard for the young man Naftali Landau with a request to
send Sifrei Shulchan Malachim. Hungary [?], 1943.
* O cial paper leaf of Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Henkin with an hand-
written inscription of a name and address.
e ‘Ezrat Torah' organization was established in 1915 in the United States in order to support rabbis during the First World War. e organization׳s goals were expanded to aid in a wide range of elds. Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Henkin headed the organi- zation beginning in 1924 for several decades, and under his lead- ership the organization aided Jews su ering under Communist rule, during the great depression, between the two world wars in Europe, during the Holocaust, in the DP camps in Europe and during the period of austerity in Israel. After the economic state of the Western world stabilized, Ezrat Torah also aided in the eld of establishing housing projects in the State of Israel.

תוכן המכתבים: הכותבים מציינים את סבלם בימי השואה, את הקשיים שלהם בהווה, את הצורך החיוני בתמיכה במחייתם ובצרכים הרוחניים שלהם, מודים על העזרה ומבקשים את המשך התמיכה. במכתבים משולבים דברי אמונה וצידוק הדין, דברי תורה, פרטים על הנזקקים ועוד. המכתבים מהווים מסמכים היסטוריים משמעותיים המעידים על מפעלי הסיוע וההצלה הכבירים של עזרת תורה, בשנים שלאחר תום
מלחמת העולם השניה.

ארגון ‘עזרת תורה׳ הוקם בשנת תרע״ה [1915] בארה״ב על מנת לתמוך ברבנים שסבלו בזמן מלחמת העולם הראשונה. בהמשך הורחבו מטרות הארגון לסיוע במגוון רחב של תחומים. משנת תרפ״ה [1924] היה הרב יוסף אליהו הנקין מנהל הארגון במשך עשרות שנים, ותחת הנהגתו סייע הארגון ליהודים במצוקתם תחת השלטון הקומוניסטי, בימי המשבר הכלכלי העולמי הגדול, בין שתי המלחמות באירופה, בשנות השואה, במחנות שארית הפליטה באירופה ובימי הצנע בארץ ישראל. לאחר התייצבות המצב הכלכלי בעולם המערבי סייע ארגון ״עזרת תורה״ גם
בתחום הקמת שיכונים במדינת ישראל. מצב: מצבים שונים. כללית מצב טוב.
