Background: Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910-2012] was born in the city of Shavel, Lithuania, his parents׳ only son after 17 years of marriage. In 1924 he immigrated to Israel with his family, who settled in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem. He served as a dayan on the Great Rabbinical Court, and later became the greatest adjudicator and the leader of the generation.
