רקע: מרת דבורה ווינר בת זלמן דוב ז״ל היתה מורה מסורה בבית יעקב, ואמה האלמנה ביקשה מהחזון איש להתייעץ ולהתברך שבתה תזכה בבעל תלמיד חכם. החזון איש פנה לאחותו הרבנית מרים קנייבסקי, ולבקשתו היא הציעה לאחיהם, הרב מאיר קרליץ, את מרת דבורה כשידוך לבנו רבי שלמה. ה״תנאים״ בינהם נכתבו בי״ד בכסלו ת״ש
בירושלים. הנישואין נערכו בי״ד אדר א׳ תש״א.
במכתב שלפנינו כותבת הרבנית מרים למרת ווינר לגבי שבת בירושלים, ומאחלת מזל טוב והצלחה.

מפרט: [1] דף, נייר. 13x18 ס״מ. מכתב ומאחוריו כתב החזון איש שם לתפילה, כמנהגו לכתוב על ניירות שברשותו שמות אנשים שפנו אליו בבקשה להעתיר בעדם.
מאפיינים יחודיים: כותב המכתב ביקר אצל החזון איש ומאז לא מוצא מנוח לנפשו. הוא עמד על דוחקם של אברכים גדולי תורה מצויינים הסובלים מחרפת רעב וקור. לטובתם הוא מתכוון להוציא לאור מאמרים שהוא שולח לחזון איש, ומבקש ממנו לקוראם ולהוסיף מספר טורים בכתב. עוד הוא מבקש לשוב ולבקר אצל החזון איש בשעה שיקבע לו, על מנת שידריך אותו בדרך האמת. מאחורי המכתב כתב החזון איש

the Wife of the Steipler and Sister of the
Chazon Ish, to Miss Devorah Weiner
A letter from Rebbetzin Miriam Kanievsky to Miss Devorah Weiner, who later married her nephew Rabbi Shlomo son of Rabbi Meir Karelitz.
Speci cations: [1] leaf, paper. 14x16 cm. Yiddish. In her hand- writing and with her signature.
Background: Miss Devorah Weiner, daughter of Zalman Dov, was a dedicated teacher in a Beit Yaakov school. Her widowed mother asked the Chazon Ish to give her advice and bless her with a husband who is a Torah scholar. e Chazon Ish turned his sister Rebbetzin Miriam Kanievsky, and at his request she suggested to their brother, Rabbi Meir Karelitz, that Devorah marry his son Rabbi Shlomo. e engagement agreement between them was written on 14 Kislev [November 26] 1939 in Jerusalem. e wedding took place on March 13 1941.
In the letter before us Rebbetzin Miriam writes to Miss Weiner about Shabbat in Jerusalem, and wishes her Mazal Tov and good luck.

292 Name for Prayer in the Handwriting
of the Chazon Ish
Name for prayer in the handwriting of the Chazon Ish on a letter sent to him.
Speci cations: [1] leaf, paper. 13x18 cm. Letter, on the back of which the Chazon Ish wrote a name for prayer. He was accus- tomed to write down names of people who asked him to pray for them on paper which he happened to have nearby.
Unique Features: e letter׳s writer visited the Chazon Ish, and ever since he has been unable to have peace of mind. He notes the poor nancial conditions of married yeshiva students who are great Torah scholars and are su ering from hunger and cold. He plans to publish articles which he is sending to the Chazon Ish, for their bene t, and asks that the Chazon Ish read them and add a number of lines by hand. He also asks to visit the Chazon Ish again at a time which will be determined, in order to receive guidance in the true way. On the back of the letter, the Chazon Ish wrote a name for prayer in his handwriting.
