Additional Information:
Founded in 1964, Charleston Southern University is located near historic Charleston, SC and the beautiful beaches of the SC coastline. Charleston Southern is a Christian liberal arts university and is
one of South Carolina’s largest accredited, independent universities, enrolling 3,600 students. Affiliated with the SC Baptist Convention, the University’s vision is to be a Christian university nationally
recognized for integrating faith in learning, leading and serving.
SMALL COLLEGE, BIG OPPORTUNITIES -- CSU has been named a College of Distinction, America’s 100 Best College Buys, Military Friendly Schools, America’s Best Christian Colleges, and VA Yellow
Ribbon Program.
ACCREDITED, LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION -- The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s degrees in over 50
majors and more than 20 master’s degrees in business, criminal justice, education, nursing organizational management, and more. Each degree program is combined with a comprehensive liberal arts
foundation, which is designed to develop problem-solving and communication skills.
Charleston Southern’s Experiential Learning Initiative (ELI) requires all students to participate in an internship, service learning project, or applied learning course prior to graduation. This results in higher
job placement rates, better understanding of course materials, and the development of professional skills for the postgraduate environment.
SERVICE -- Beyond the classroom, students participate in a variety of campus activities including academic clubs, community service, intramural athletics, and campus ministries. The University offers
intercollegiate athletics for both men and women, competing in the NCAA Division I Big South Conference. Charleston Southern fields teams in basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, cross country, track
and field, golf, tennis and volleyball, as well as a Football Championship Subdivision football team.
HISTORY -- Situated on 300 acres, formerly the site of a rice and indigo plantation, Charleston Southern University is in the center of the Charleston metropolitan area. Mild winters and long summers
allow many opportunities for outdoor recreation in a city which is famous for its gardens and plantations, miles of wide sandy beaches and major fine arts events, including the Spoleto Festival USA.
