THE JAZZ SIPPER
Jessie together to go to the hospital. When they arrived Aunt Jessie
recognized Babu huddled talking to two other guys she didn’t know, but
recognized them as hardcore thugs. She even noticed their jailhouse tattoos.
Upon Babu noticing Aunt Jessie and Uncle Frank, he began walking
towards them saying Vance was in surgery. Aunt Jessie was screaming at
him what happened, what happened, Babu was consoling her and explaining
what had happened all at the same time. All he kept saying was that they shot
the wrong person. At that time Uncle Frank pulled Aunt Jessie away telling
her to try and calm down and check with the nurse about Vance’s condition.
As they were checking on Vance condition Babu whispered to Uncle Frank
that he would be back.
The nurse reported back to them saying that Vance was still in surgery and
he was fighting hard to stay alive. Aunt Jessie thought, that’s right baby you
fight and fight, keep on fighting she said out loud. Uncle Frank was relieved
to hear that Vance was still fighting because he truly believed that God gave
strong people the strongest will and he knew that Vance was strong willed he
began to swell up inside thinking about how much Vance meant to him and
Jessie.
He was their gift from God he thought; they could never conceive a child of
their own. He remembered Vance’s mother Lizzie telling him and Jessie that
if anything ever happened to her, she wanted them to raise Vance as their
own and that’s what they have been doing the past seven years.
When Vance woke up, he had been under for four long days and had
coded twice where he had to be brought back to life. He remembered hearing
