THE JAZZ SIPPER
That morning Regina came to Vance’s room looking even better than the
day before, she had on her nurse uniform. A dark navy blue sweater with white
nursing shoes and a gold plated name tag that read R. L. Neumann, Nursing
Student, and below her name tag was a picture I.D. of her exhibiting a
beautiful smile. She wore her hair in a short stylish cut that enhanced the
pecan color of the tint that was in her hair. Her perfume smelled of early
morning freshness right before an early rain. The smell was faint but
distinctive; just one whiff gave off the essence of sophistication.
As Regina came closer she said good morning, Vance replied back good
morning to you, with a smile. They just looked at each other with an ease of
familiarity; with a warm intensity that only predetermine soul mates could give
each other. Well, have you thought about what I said, Regina asked Vance,
yes I did, I thought about it all night Vance said, and you are right. But in some
environments it’s eat or be eaten. Regina said that’s the key, in some
environments, the definition of environment when used as a noun, as you did,
means the aggregation of surrounding things, conditions, or influences;
surroundings; that all can be changed; and Regina smiled. Vance was smiling
as well, but he asked, what does aggregation mean? The combining of
different parts replied Regina. Wow! Vance said you are not only rich, but you
are smart as well. I told you already that we are not rich, just better off than
some. Vance held his hands up and said score, Regina one and Vance zero,
they both just laughed.
As Regina was leaving the room she turn around and said that she would
see him later, she was assigned to another patient on the floor, and that they
had changed her assignment due to the staff being short, but she just wanted
to check on him this morning, I’m glad you did Vance said. Once Regina left
