Jessie told him. Then, Cheryl walked in, hello everybody, said Cheryl. Aunt
Jessie spoke and held a small conversation with her. Then, Aunt Jessie
disappeared into her room. Even though Vance did not show it, his interest
was piqued. He wanted to know why Regina had called and what she wanted.
Why after all this time she was trying to get in touch with him he wondered. A
penny for your thoughts Cheryl said, Vance started smiling, I was just thinking
about a Jazz cut I liked by Wes Montgomery called ‘’A Sentimental Mood”.
Cheryl said I like that, as she was winking at Vance she said maybe we could
set our own Sentimental Mood. They both smiled and left Aunt Jessie’s. They
headed to the hotel room they had rented earlier that day.
As soon as Vance’s time at home had begun, it had ended just as fast.
When, Vance arrived at his duty station, on the Naval Air Base located in
Virginia Beach, Va., he was assigned for the first six weeks to the Fleet
Readiness Aviation Maintenance Personnel Command at N.A.S Ocenana
before being sent to his Naval Aviation Squadron 104. N.A.S Ocenana had
numerous squadrons on the base and all new transfers had to go through this
training before they went to their permanent squadrons. The training
consisted of aviation orientation in a classroom environment that last for about
two weeks and (OJT) on the job training in the field that lasted about four
weeks. By the time you got to your assigned squadron, you were already
indoctrinated into Aviation Navy life. You understood watch standing, the
types of jobs that were in the Aviation field, what it was like living in the
squadron barracks and what is was like living on a Naval Air Base. To Vance
surprise it was not bad at all, there were a lot of things going on and he met a
lot of like-minded guys within his squadron and throughout the others
squadrons. In his squadron there were about 25 new transfers plus himself
