THE JAZZ SIPPER
At the restaurant Dee Dee began questioning Regina about Levi and their
recent date. That’s when Dee Dee said, now aren’t you glad that I did not
mention that other fool’s telephone calls? What telephone calls? And what
fool are you talking about, Regina asked. Vance, Dee Dee said, every time
he called I would tell him that you were not in. Dee Dee began laughing,
Regina wanted to reach over the table and slap Dee Dee. Regina said “you
did what!” What’s the big deal Dee Dee said; now you are hooked up with a
doctor and not some common criminal. If you were still involved with Vance
you would probably not be planning to see Levi for dinner tonight.
At that moment Regina’s mind was 1000 miles away from her and Dee
Dee’s conversation. Regina jumped up; what’s wrong with you Dee Dee, have
you lost your mind. Then she told Dee Dee that she had no right to pick and
choose for her. I got to go! Regina stormed out of the restaurant. Regina was
moving so fast that she did not see Amber, Dee Dee’s best friend. Amber was
coming into the restaurant to meet with them. What’s wrong with your country
cousin and they both started laughing. She will be alright Dee Dee said, forget
about her. So, what colors should I choose? Dee Dee went on with her lunch
with Amber like nothing ever happened.
Regina was so mad she could not remember how she made it home from
the restaurant. For a moment she could not remember if she walked or took
a cab. All she knew was that she wanted to talk to Vance. And let him know
that she had never received his messages. And, she did not know that he had
been trying to get in touch with her. Her emotions were all over the place.
Regina kicked off her shoes and laid down on the sofa fully clothed, she
closed her eyes thinking back to when she and Vance first met.
