Chapter Eight----- City Lights
Regina had been in New York now going on eight months and she had not
heard from Vance in about six months. She had definitely moved on with her
life. She had been working at Bellevue Hospital, the oldest public hospital in
the United States. Located in New York City at 462 First Avenue, It was the
flagship facility of New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation. Bellevue
handled nearly 500,000 outpatient clinic visits, 100,000 emergency patients
and some 26,000 inpatients each year. More than 80 percent of Bellevue’s
patients were the medically underserved population within the city. The
hospital had an attending physician staff of 1,800 and a house staff of more
than 1000. Working there and maintaining a full schedule in school was
definitely a challenge.
She met Levi; who was one of the attending physician’s that was in house.
It was his first year as a doctor. He was what De De, called tall dark,
handsome and wealthy. Levi specialized in internal medicine. He was
originally from, Waycross, Georgia, with a population 15,333 located in Ware
County. Waycross was approximately 254 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, with
an estimated driving time of 4 hours, 13 minutes. Levi’s goal was to get the
best training possible and move back down to Waycross, Georgia. He would
practice at Satilla Regional Medical Center. With over 1,000 employees and
100 physicians it was the leading center for health care in the area. A three
story facility with a trauma unit, cancer care unit, outpatient surgery and
imaging services. He often dreamed he was the Chief Medical Officer at
Satilla Regional Medical Center. Regina was dazzle by his medical knowledge
and romantic style.
