DIRECTOR OFCHRIS PRICE SURF SPORTS
Surf Life Saving sport develops and demonstrates the skills and abilities that
surf life savers require to save lives and this relationship is incredibly valuable and important in the aquatic environment at Sunshine Beach.
Season 2020/21 continued to grow the depth and talent of the SBSLSC Surf Sports team though the pursuit of our 3 Year Plan and process of building an efficiently resourced program that assists competitors achieve their athletic objectives no matter what level they aspire to.
Paramount to success in any organisation is the team culture which is largely demonstrated by the behaviour of the group and the individuals. Our stated and agreed values of Respect, Support, Integrity, Discipline and Enjoyment continue to be honoured, most of the time (!) and in doing so our group will evolve to be stronger and more successful.
The competition season delivered some great results for the club and the individuals involved. Top of the list is the placings and finalists at The Aussies which saw silver medals won by the U17 Female Board Relay and Ski Relay and a bronze by Clare Derrington in the Masters Female 2km Open Water Swim. Other finalists in either individual and / or team events included: Sam O’Connor, Dane Gottschalk, Max Moore, Grace Otto, Gemma Welch- Smith, Abbie Tolano, Scarlett Olver, Kilian Carrel, Mitch Gleeson, Tommy Price and Xavier Dilleward.
Lead by Head Coach, Josh Minogue we are incredibly fortunate to have a coaching team that is so enthusiastic, professional, and committed to help each member of the group grow and develop as competitors and people. A huge thank you to Josh and your team.
Thank you also to everyone that helped
out through the season in the roles of Team Managers, Officials, Water Safety, Age Managers and Gear Stewards.
Moving forward the Surf Sports administrators have some exciting plans and objectives which will be unveiled in the new season!
To sign off, It’s not original (thanks Dan Moore), but it’s very appropriate – Stay Classy Sunshine.
Silver medalists Grace Otto, Gemma Welch- Smith and Abbie Tolano, in the U17 Female Board Relay and Ski Relay, with ski coach Paul Gilmore.
Scarlett Olver shows Mitch Gleeson how it’s done!
