closed was one thing, but with his eyes open? Could he be going crazy? Maybe it was time to check into a mental institution, he thought. Instead, he decided to go to India and talk to Sai Baba about these experiences. He was happy to find that his wife wanted to make the trip with him.
The first day at the ashram, Phil, with full beard, long hair, and total unfamiliarity with the rules and regulations of the ashram, sat far back in a crowd of devotees. Sai Baba came out of the temple to walk amongst them. As soon as Phil saw Swami he began to sob like a baby, feeling that he was finally home. Swami walked slowly toward Phil, and standing before him, held up his hand in the form of a blessing. Phil, being unfamiliar with the meaning, thought that Swami was waving hello to him.
So, with tears flowing down his cheeks, Phil waved back.
The next morning Sai Baba invited Phil for a personal interview. After leaving no doubt that he knew everything about Phil, Swami asked Phil what he wanted. Phil asked if the visions were real or if they were hallucinations or imaginations. Swami told him that the visions were true, were really him, and were as valid, if not more so, than anything physical. He then asked, “Do you think that I am this body?
