Attracting & Retaining Outings
In my 5 years as Assistant Golf professional, I have found five crucial components to
attracting outings to our club:
1. Show the membership the importance of referrals.
2. Educate the membership of the fiscal importance of outings. The more outing rounds that
the club hosts, the lower the dues.
3. Study the relationships between members and the companies that employ them. Then
reach out to the entertainment coordinators to determine if they would entertain golf.
4. Use PGA Tour sponsors to find member/company relationships.
5. Extensive market research to determine a competitive outing package that includes: golf,
food and beverage, awards, favors, and base caddie rates. Study the surrounding area and
see what competition is charging for their packages.
Once the club attract an outing, I strive to put a program together that grantees future retention
and boosted attendance for years to come. I focus on three key components to achieve these
goals.
1. WE must become a partner of the outing. Work with them to improve their entertaining
and hosting of clients and guests.
2. Give advice to help the company, foundation, charity, etc. on achieving their goals.
3. “Make the outing want to come back.”
