Philosophy
• My junior golf philosophy is simple “Junior golfers need to develop
fundamental skills to establish functional movement patterns, develop sport
specific skills, and most importantly, create a love for the game.”
• We are not trying to create good golfers; we are trying to create amazing golfers.
• Create those amazing golfers is incredibly different from what is available in most
junior golf programs.
• Develop a program routine thinking like kids, not adults.
• Juniors need to understand that sport-specific skills are built around fundamental
athletic skills.
Junior Golf Clinics & Play Days
At my junior golf clinics, you will never see kids standing around and hitting golf
balls for 90 minutes. Most of the 5-to-9 year olds would not last ten minutes. We have
cured the short attention spans and boredom introducing the “FUNdamental Cyclone” to
our clinic days. The Cyclone is a unique rotation of stations to build the junior
fundamental athletic skills. Children should be well balanced, agile, coordinated, possess
well-developed kicking, striking, throwing, and catching skills. The juniors should also
be aware and understand body movement and awareness. Some of these activities include
hitting whiffle balls or a tennis forehand to help with eye-hand coordination and trunk
rotation. Throwing a frisbee with the lead hand helps with the release of the golf club as
well as maintaining good balance. All juniors should have all of these characteristics
before they specifically start learning to play golf.
