2015 top ten
Easy everyone. I'm leaving the usual interview segments till 2016. TRUST ME we have some amazing guests lined up for the new year. I'd like to thank Mike, Paul and all the regular Zone Magazine readers for the opportunity to write for Ireland's only Dance music magazine. It's great to add some Ragga / Bass music to the magazine. I feel this is a much under represented area of ''Dance Music'' in this country and so I give major props to the guys for having the foresight and vision to help shed some light on this.
So here is my top chart for 2015, enjoy!
2015 was a great year. 2016 will be greater. Happy Xmas and New Year. See you on the other side. Boom!
Its been a busy 2015 for me music wise with releases on Subculture, Vandit, Outburst, Perfecto, & Discover to name a few but here’s just some of the tracks that featured heavily my sets over the year.
1. Sunny Lax - Enceladus [Anjuna Beats]
Its been an incredible year once again for anjuna the brand and label just seem to be going from strength to strength with some amazing artists producing some incredible music, Sunny Lax’s Enceladus topped it off for me.
2. David Forbes Ft. Emma Gillespie - Hope Your Ok [Subculture]
Was really happy first off to team up With Emma Gillespie once gain to round off 2015 with a debut release on Subculture was super happy the way the track turned out & Hopefully its one of many to come on Subculture.
3. Bryan Kearney - Wake up Call [Subculture]
Irish King of all things 140 released his massive and again was a mainstay in my sets throughout the year for me
4. Scot Project - Acid Air Raid (Mark Sherry Remix) [Outburst Records] I’ve always been a huge fan of the TB303 since way back in the day so was really excited when mark released this remix on his Outburst Records Imprint.
5. Giuseppe Ottaviani - Crossing Lights [Subculture]
Amazing track from an amazing producer, a bit different from Ottavian’s usual material but was really a stand out track & one that featured in a lot of my sets.
6. David Forbes - Jetpack [Outburst Records]
My Debut release on my close friend and partner in Crime my Mark Sherry's Label since it’s inception its really took off and has some great artist onboard and I’m very happy to be part of the label. Expect a collar from myself & Mark hitting Outburst Mid 2016 were just tying the loose ends up with the track!.
7. Rodg - Excelsior [Statement]
Never really had the chance to play this track out that much but really love the vibe to it and love the Statement Records vibe
8. Will Atkinson - Through The Spirit [FSOE]
Fellow Scotsman Mr Atkinson has been on fire in 2015 and i smashed the living daylights out this one!
9. Denzo - Hacked [Aria Digital]
I’ve known Denzo for a good number of years now and became close friends with him, i’m really happy to have him on my Aria Imprint and really chuffed that he’s really found his sound and forging on with it, when i heard Hacked i was like yeah this is the style that i want to hear more from you another mainstay in my sets over the year.
10. Grum - U [Anjuna Beats]
Love this producer, great vibes on all his tracks and really cool to start off with this sort of track in my longer sets.
1. Mungo's Hifi ''Ice Cream Love'' Ft. Johnny Osbourne.
Mungo's Hifi Meets Johnny O. . .Whats not to love about this. Timeless and classic feel to this one.
2. Lethal Bizzle Ft. Diztortion - Fester Skank
This tune was EVERYWHERE in 2015. From commercial clubs to grime raves to Sky Sports adverts. Huge production from one of my favourite producers in recent years.
3. Ras Demo Ft. Jah Mason & Frisco Bbk ''Blazing Fire''
It was a huge year for Demolition man, he worked with many different producers in 2015 and this project in particular I have been supporting in my sets from day one.
4. Wax Wreckaz Ft. Dynamite MC ''Heavyweight Sound''
Wicked stuff from Wax Wreckaz, this beat is different, I love it. I'm yet to hear less than brilliant vocals from Dynamite MC.
5. Inner Circle Ft. Chronixx & Jacob Miller ''Tenement yard''
Classic Killa Milla blended with the no.1 shining light in Reggae music at the moment. Its also a free download. Go grab it quick!
6. Chopstick Dubplate Ft Cheshire Cat ''I'm Sure'' King Yoof remix. We've been playing the hiphop/Reggae version of this tune from Tuffist and max Powa all year in our dirty Dubsters sets. My man King Yoof puts a nice irie flip on it. Classic version. One of my Favourite Cheshire cat vocals to date, another wicked artist I had the pleasure of working with in 2015.
7. Tenor Fly ''Born Again'' 2015 mix.
Classic tune. Add Jungle tunes and heavy sub bass = dance floor winner.
8. Trigga / Chimpo / Binga ''Who Run Tingz''
Another track you will have heard at every festival in 2015.
9. Dirty Dubsters Ft. Chip Fu & Screechy Dan ''Big Sound''
A bit biased? Well maybe (lol) but this is one we have also been playing for the entire year and it has never failed us to date. Wan to give a loud shoutout to my Brooklyn don's Chip & Screechy. We've been blown away by the response to this tune from all over.
10. Poirier Ft Red Fox ''Jump''
This one was a real ''Grower'' for me over the year. It took a good few listens to finally get the beauty on this one. Nice vocals from Red Fox (another Brooklyn Don) but the simple and very effective future dancehall / Jamaican bass style riddim is killer. I think we'll hear more of this sound in 2016.
