2015 top ten
t-star [AUS]
louk [uk]
Hey guys! When I am not writing about events, I am trying to source the best techno and harder material for my radio shows and to review for you lovely people at Zone! Here is my top 10 for the year! Don't forget to catch me on the third Sunday of each month on RTE 2FM for the Sonic Sessions. 03:00-05:00. http:// www.2fm.ie Happy Christmas & All the best for the new year!
1. Deapmash + Raito - Den Start [Clubwerks]
I love it when a track comes from out of nowhere by a producer you have never heard of and totally knocks you for six. This was a random promo from a UK PR company from France's Deapmash + Raito that really smashed the place for me and is still in my box now. It's a really simple yet driving techno number that has had everyone asking about it when played.
2. Jake Conlon - Cries Of The Necromancer [Dubtek Vinyl]
Been championing this guys productions for quite a while and as a DJ his sets really rock too, this was the standout track on the first release of the wicked Dubtek Vinyl imprint from Leeds (number two is a belter too!). Anywho, a simplistic but tribal groove that builds and builds with just the right amount of tension and release make this one somewhat special!
3. Minimum Syndicat - Insurgency [Minimum Syndicat]
A lot of the techno I have played in 2015 has come from France, and one thing I love about these guys productions is they retain the oldskool vibe of techno with some analogue equipment and a really raw sound. Insurgency has the charm of an Emmanuel Top release from 1995, but with modern production and just rocks the place!
4. Jim Justice - Innovate [Error 303]
I think both me and Wragg were salivating at the mouth when we first heard this one, a rip roaring hard trancer from one of my favourite producers of the genre. Like the title suggests it is as innovative as you can get with meandering synths and tonnes of energy throughout!
5. LA-4A - Invader (Alden Tyrell Mix) [Delft]
I feel rather stupid with this one, and it is to do with how disposable MP3s are these days! Having gone through a stack of tracks before Bloc festival, I made a folder with this in it. Heard Marcel Dettmann & Ben Klock play it the same weekend and wondered what it was, spent months online trying to ID it to find I had already had it. Oh well! Played it a LOT since though! Twisted acid belter.
6. Pulse One - Human (Oscar Mulero Mix) [Warm Up]
This is just brutal, I love it, it doesn't sound like it's at 128 BPM, but goes down well at that speed and even pitched up to 140+. A simple groove that builds and builds with a synth riff that gets more and more distorted as time goes on, but couple that with a behemoth of a kick that simply overpowers and you have a right winner!
7. ADM - New Generation [Atmosphere Recordings UK]
Not much to say on this one except it's ADM and it's on Atmosphere. That should be enough really, hard trance of the highest order. His recent remix on Hyper Reality wasn't bad either!
8. Moerbeck - Weapon's In Your Head [ON]
This is unreal, it's as twisted as you like and again it was one we heard at Bloc and needed to find the name of. One for seriously mashing up your head!!
9. Louk - 2001 [Country Club]
Wouldn't be an end of year chart without a bit of self promotion. Made this out of a lot of tracks that I enjoyed in the year 2001 for the Country Club reunion, pressed it on vinyl and donated all the profits to Macmillan. Hope you all enjoy it!
10. Reeko - Capitulo V [Mental Disorder]
Although some of his material is a bit too abstract for me, Reeko has nailed it with this one. A track with fierce percussion and a huge attention to detail and sound programming. This is really good for taking a set on a harder and darker journey.
I’ve decided to go very true to my tastes in 2015, but at the same time without forgetting my own major releases of the year with Redox Records and other favourites in Electro House!
1. Eric Prydz - Opus [Pryda Records] House track and the Classic Hero of all time and Big influence of mine in EDM.
2. T-Star - Ai [Redox Records]
Track from my Electric EP.
3. Eedion - Crushing [Plasma.Digital] Smashing Quality of Electro House Beats.
4. T-Star - Orion [Redox Records]
Complexed symphony of EP
5. Mord Mustang - Drivel [Magic Trooper] From The Boss of Complexed Electro Game.
6. Kaskade & Skrillex - Lick it [Comparative Music] Absolutely Smashed it This Year Skrillex and Kaskade, making history.
7. Proxy - Oldboy [Mau5trap]
Heavy Banger from the Legend of Eastern Block.
8. Malcolm Function - More Balls Than Brains (T-Star Remix) [Redox Records] Alternative Electro House and great Underground release.
9. Metrozoid - Starshine [Digital Empire] Bright spot and great example of the genre evolving.
10. T-Star - Electric [Redbox Records] Main Track of the EP Electric in loving memory of Nikita Sergeevich Tichina.
