Who can we expect on your label?
Mid September will see Rogerio Ribeiro make his 8 House Records debut with a track called Old Feelings which has a remix from Carl St Pierre. In October Blue Marlin's resident DJ Luca Garboni will be releasing Tadpole with The Brasilica giving us an amazing remix. Following this, we have an E.P from Mindek called Unnatural High which includes two Son of 8 remixes which allowed us to work on a slightly tougher vibe than what people might expect from us. The label is firmly in the tech house genre with vocal, atmospheric and harder more techno releases scheduled over the next 12 months. We try and look for tracks that we would play out.
What's been the biggest challenge with your label?
As with anything new, the first six months were quite challenging as we were an unknown label. So trying to encourage well known remixers was high on our agenda to help rocket the reputation of the label. The talent pool we set up on the website received some really varied artists and tracks in the early days, which weren't necessarily right for us, but this soon filtered out once the label became more established and we soon started attracting the right kind of talent.
You've already attracted a number of a-listers to support your releases, were you surprised with the results of your recent campaigns and who has provided significant support?
Yes we have been blown away by the support for our music so far. Gorgon City have given us massive support, playing both our tracks and the labels tracks on their radio show and in live sets. The Abode crew of GW Harrison, Jimmy Switch and
Sooney have given the tracks a lot of backing.
Can you tell us where your highlights have been this year so far and why?
It has to be setting up 8 House Records. We decided to take a back seat from touring at the start of the year to launch the label and commit to the studio. As a result, our sound has improved. Another high has been seeing the support and feedback from the industry. It has also given us the opportunity to meet and work with so many cool, talented people that we respect. As artists, we have had a steep learning curve with the label and it has been fun.
If you were planning your last gig and you had to choose two artists to play back to back with, who would they be (dead or alive)?
It would have to be Pete Tong for me (Colin) For me he is the main man in house music who you really want to impress both as an artist in the studio and as a DJ in the club. For me (Ammo) it would have to be Daft Punk. With simple tools they created some of the mosts classic electro sounds with killer kicks and amazing melodies. They pushed the boundaries of electronic music and took it mainstream from an underground movement. They are enigmatic and definitely a double act to aspire too.
What's the one track that you wish you'd made?
Candi Statton You've Got The Love. Since its release in 1976 this track has stood the test of time and is synonymous with house music! Its got EVERYTHING! From the unique catchy baseline to its infectious lyrics, it's definitely the whole package.
