Where can we expect to hear Son of 8 in September and October?
After a really busy summer as well as time out to focus on the label again, we're really excited to be heading back into the studio for the next couple of months, getting our heads down and working on new material for 2018. We've some exciting one off events to see us through until the end of the year, including our official label launch party when we resurface from the studio at the end of October.
Tell us a bit about why we constantly see the name 'Son of 8' plastered in various places in Ibiza!?
We take it you're referring to the Son of 8 graffiti! We have no idea! But we LOVE it! We noticed a few bits dotted about the Island during our Summer 2016 residency. We went to a lot of after and workers parties and met a lot of cool people that summer so think we picked up a few fans along the way. But when we returned this year it was everywhere! We wish we knew who it was, we'd have them doing our artwork for us!
After spending a season in Ibiza during 2016, do you have any plans to return to Ibiza?
Ibiza is like our second home so we are always back and forwards to the island. Talks have started over a residency in 2018 but we can't say more than that at the moment! It's all shaping up to be another exciting year for us!
Are there any labels that you seem to turn to for music regularly?
We always listen to the music first and then look at which label its come from. We admire Jamie Jones, (Hot Creations) and Mark Knight (Toolroom) as ultimate A&R selectors and we
love those labels. Big for us at the moment is also Relief, Simma and Suara, Though we could go on!
Where's your favourite place to go to in the world? (Not necessarily to perform, just in general)
We've been so lucky to spend as much time in Ibiza as we have and it's somewhere we will never get bored of! We love all of its hidden treasures, warm climate and how it still manages to throw up some surprises even after all these years!
What tips would you offer to new producers just starting out?
Don't try to over-complicate your tracks. Spend your time perfecting your beats, baseline and general groove. Once you've mastered this formula you can go deeper into the art of melodies, effects and automation.
Which of you takes the lead when producing music?
In all honesty it's 50/50. We both bring different qualities to the studio. While we generally tend to agree on what we like and don’t like, each of us bringing different sounds, ideas and inspirations definitely is what makes the Son of 8 sound work.
