Technology today has moved on so fast! And it’s somewhat easier to mix these days. For the younger producers trying to break into the scene my advice would be to try find your niche, try and find something that’s does the business on the Dance floor. But doesn’t have to conform to what’s currently trendy, for instance, we have seen this with EDM over the past 3 years and now it’s starting to fall flat on its face. No doubt there’ll be a few that jump on the deep house bandwagon and when that’s gone I’m sure it’ll become trendy to play a bit of techno. Whilst it’s big and you build a career on EDM, when it falls apart your career falls apart. And you can see a lot of the bigger Dj’s are going to move over to deep house. Point is, where’s it going to go after that...
Totally agreed and speaking of Deep House! We were all playing “Deep House” in the mid to late 90’s right here in Dublin. And something that I picked up on was a remix of one of your tracks “Hanging around Corners” the “G-prod” mix John was playing one evening on NRG and right after the track was played said “ The track will not be released for 6 months” That to me is a Confidence knowing that when ever you release the track its still going to be relevant when released, most importantly Current!
Christian: With Bakroom, we try to look at the next 12 months and organize it that way. If we sign something we love now, then in 12 months we won’t be sick of it, unless we overplay it. There is a guy we recently signed to Bakroom “Stephen Lopkin”. His music is getting played by “Vince Watson” Funk D’Void his material has a timeless sound to it! You could put it out in 2 years time and it’s still going to sound fresh.
John: For us and even with the album itself! The albums only coming out the end of March. The Album is finished 9 months. And 2 years before those 8 months we were in
the process of putting it all together.
I would like to think, hopefully when most people are listening that they won’t realize that some it is nearly 3 years old. It will sound like something fresh off the press. And I suppose my self & Christian over the years, we always like to have stuff that’s going to have longevity, we made very conscious decisions that if we look back at this album in 10 years time is it going to sound like all the tracks from that era or is it going to have its own niche and sound well put together. That’s what’s important to us and maybe that’s what’s will differentiate the album in years to come
Can you tell our Readers when your Debut Album is due for release?
John: March 27th is the release date.
So when this interview goes to press with Zone, the album will be in shops & available online!
Can you tell the readers what can people expect from the album?
Christian: Well we have a number of releases scheduled from the album; there are remix of Resonance on the way. “Blue Amazon” is in the process of doing a remix of “Hanging around Corners” also “G-Prod” finished their remix.
“System Error” was released a couple of months ago and ended up in Mixmag Germany compilation series by Sam Paganini.
“Why 1 is One and 2 is Two” currently in development & “Mindshapaes” we have Ben Shaw & Jerome Krom owner of Dutch record label “Outland Records”
John: We have reached out to a couple we would consider who are going to be the next hot producers over the next 5 years some have come back some are quite busy, some are going to have a look at it again however
we have had a huge amount of very strong feedback from them.
Our timing might not be perfect because that’s the way it goes but there is certainly some very hot remixes on the way. And we would like to think when the Album goes live that it might be easier to get those remix over the line when they get a taste of what we do.
What is your Favorite song from the Album?
John: Fusion is the one for me. It’s the one track that I can listen back to consistently I obviously enjoy everything on the album. We had 30 tracks we got them down to 9 we didn’t really have any major battles in terms of what 9 got there were the best 9 for the Album so for me “Fusion” is just one of those tracks its very steady its moody I just think some of the production in it is very clever and the arrangement. There are just a lot of things that really do it for me and I can just find if I have been out the 1st thing that I will go for is “fusion” its just something I’m really proud of.
Christian: Really hard to choose, as Its like choosing one of your children. I suppose Transfer or Resonance just because the amount of Programing that went into Transfer and that base drop that kind of kills me every time. And Resonance because I can listen to it at any time of day.
I really enjoyed the piano in Resonance however my favorite track was “Mindshapes” I love that Deep Melodic Sound that drives the whole track. Can you tell the readers about your Label “Bakroom”
Christian: John is involved, we’re bouncing stuff back & forth with the album and we have tons of stuff planned. There’s a mini album coming from a guy “AUVOYAGE” it’s all-ambient it’s just a bit of trip.
