Greetings to all the Zone Magaziners, I hooked up with my pal Mystro for a catch up ahead of the release of his album ''Mystrogen Delux''. Here's what the UK's favourite 'MuthaLuva' had to say.
Your album Mystrogen Deluxe is due out April 20th. Can you tell us the premise/idea behind this release and what we can expect to be hearing from it?
Yeah it's an extended version of my debut LP with a bunch of bonus material so all in all it's a 28 track bumper-pack of this drug called Mystrogen a drug prescribed to release the mind from the same-old everyday clogging up the airwaves. If you're into real Hip Hop music with thoughtfully constructed rhymes and beats with that essence of fun and creativity then this for you without a doubt. There's production and features from Homeboy Sandman, Junior Reid, Show N Prove, Mr Thing and Flako to name a few. It's like a journey with someone who's taken Mystrogen and sees a lot of everyday things in a different light, which coincides with my approach to writing and leaving a sense of individuality. It's basically like oxygen except you'll need it a whole lot more...
2014 seemed to be a year where you may have taken a few new directions in career, most notably by not doing the ''UK Rap Up'' project you represented hard over the last
number of years. Can you tell us a bit about this?
Yeah I've always been told that when your heart's not in it then there's no point in doing it anymore. I didn't mind doing it at first but after a while it got a bit stale for me due to all the behind the scenes politics and weird stuff that had me feeling like it was becoming the wrong type of attention and not as fun as before. I may do them again but for now it feels like i need to work harder on the music I do throughout the year and gain a similar amount of attention. I explain more about it here. I'm glad everyone has enjoyed them and I may get back on it if the demand is really there but for now it's all about enjoying this thing for me.
You always seem busy shooting videos, your last video ''Come We Go'' was also quite a different look with the animation side of things. How important is it for you to have official Video to accompany your releases?
It's definitely important because generally people will search for a video as soon as they've heard a song & it's a great way of promoting a release whilst still bringing more entertainment to the masses. I'm gonna be dropping a new video on my channelhttp://www.youtube.com/mysdiggi so subscribe & stay tuned Mutha Luvaz!
Is there anyone out there (Hiphop or
otherwise) that you'd love to collaborate with in future?
The Roots, Mumford & Sons, Dirty Dubsters, Flying Lotus, there's some more but I can't remember right now.
OK so I'm slightly of topic here but: Anyone that knows or follows you will be aware that you are quite the Mixed martial Arts Fiend, so I've got to ask you for a prediction on the fight everyone is talking about: Aldo Vs. Mcgregor? How is this one going to play out?
McGregor looks bigger so I can imagine he'd have the power advantage plus he seems to have got into Aldo's head during this world tour thing, but there's a lot of emotion going on and you know mistakes can be made when there's too much emotion involved so we'll have to wait and see. I can see Conor becoming champ but can't rule out Aldo getting a chance... that's why we love this sport.
Thanks for your time bro. Any last Shoutouts or Plugs - Get em in here:
