chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. There are no
clinical trials in metastatic vulvar or vaginal melanoma
to define the effects of chemotherapeutic agents. We
recommend that guidelines for chemotherapeutic
management of malignant cutaneous melanoma be
applied to vulvovaginal melanomas at the current time.
Vulvovaginal melanomas are an exceedingly rare tumor.
Treatment decisions are mostly based on data pertaining
to melanomas of other sites. These tumors are best
treated at centers with experience in the management
of melanoma. The optimal treatment decisions for
patients with vulvovaginal melanomas requires a
multidisciplinary approach with expertise from
dematopathologists, gynaecologic oncologists, medical
oncologists, and radiation oncologists who are abreast of
the rapidly changing and evolving science of melanoma
management.
