Coelacanth and Associates (C+A) is an architectural firm based in
Tokyo, Japan (CAt). The firm has a different branch in Nagoya,
Japan (Can).
Principal Architects Lt. Kazuhiro Kojima and Yasuyuki Ito
established Coelacanth, winning the first prize in the international
competition for Osaka International Peace Center in 1990, and the
Utase Elementary School in 1995.
It is a collaborative firm, best known for designing elementary
schools in Japan, which has links with the government, cooperative
social programs and other like minded modern architectural
practices around the world. The firm targets to make use of
traditional knowledge and present with environmental, social and
culture schema.
The firm involves designing of variety of building types such as
residential, institutional, public, interior and furniture designing
based on local materials. The firm has actively informed with
network of organizations that promote environmental community.
