When we talk about culture, it can be seen as what defines you as a member of
community. Different aspects take place when we talk about it. Thus, Ecuadorian
culture can be divided in three main aspects.
First, we notice the language people we to communicate. [The main language is
Spanish.] We have that the majority, which is 80% of habitants speak Spanish. [Also,
many other languages are used.] In communities, which are far located from cities, we
can find Quichua.
Another aspect is people’s religion. [The majority prefer to be Roman Catholic.]
Even when many different religions exists there, habitants prefer Christianism. [The
festivities that are celebrated are related to religion.] Eastern week, which is celebrated
because of Jesus death, is one of the bunch of religious celebrations.
A final aspect, but not least important, is food and drinks. [As Ecuador has four
regions, in each one you can find different food]. “Maito”, which is a fish wrapped in
banana leaves, is typical from the Amazon region. Typical dishes are an important part
of culture. “Ceviche, encebollado”, and others, which are from the coast region, are very
recognized around the world.
In short, aspects as language, religion and food are part of Ecuadorian culture. I
think that all these things and more make Ecuadorian people unique in their own way.
