P. 123
Angel sh are found in monogamous pairs and they show a great degree of loyalty to their partners, sticking together for life. They spend most of the day swimming and foraging as a pair, usually staying within sight of their partner. If one angel sh wanders off for a longer period of time, when it returns the pair will swim in close circles around each other, strengthening their bond again. They ignore other species of angel sh in their territory, but if a pair of the same species comes too close they attack and chase them off. At night they always return to the same den to sleep.
p to 70 of an angel sh’s diet is sponges. They especially love the eshy insides of the Leathery Barrel Sponge p. 65 but their jaws can’t break open the tough skin. awksbill Turtles p. 386 can also eat this sponge and with their specially adapted beak, opening the sponge is no problem. Divers will often nd angel sh of different species following turtles to their meals and picking up the scraps that fall from the turtle’s beak. If a large group of angel sh is found hovering over the reef, it could mean there is a awksbill Turtle feeding somewhere in the area.
