Ionic and Covalent Bonds Together
Sometimes, a compound can have an ionic and a covalent bond.
How would we know?
• To know if something contains both an ionic and a covalent bond, it
must have at least 3 elements. One of the elements must be from Reffy, Table E (Polyatomic Ions).
NH4Cl
• Exception: If C is part of the compound, the bonds will be covalent.
CH3OH
We will now learn about two types of covalent bonds: nonpolar and polar.
