Symmetry and Bonds
• Nonpolar molecules are symmetrical.
Why? A nonpolar molecule (which doesn’t have a positive and
negative charge) will have an equal pull on each side of the
molecule, forming a symmetrical molecule. • Polar molecules are asymmetrical.
Why? A polar molecule (which has a positive and negative charge) has unequal pulls, forming an asymmetrical molecule.
Dipoles are asymmetrical.
