 Catalyst
CATALYST: A substance that causes a chemical reaction to happen faster
How does the catalyst speed up the reaction?
The catalyst lowers the activation energy (amount of energy needed to start a reaction), which causes a faster rate of reaction.
Since the particles need less energy to react, more particles can react.
Example of a catalyst: An enzyme
There are many Regents questions on this topic.
Catalyst – cat. When a mouse sees a cat, it must react real fast! The cat makes the mouse have a fast reaction. Catalysts make the reaction move faster.
