Electrolytic Cell Process
• The positive ions go to the negative electrode (the cathode).
They undergo reduction and gain electrons at the cathode (GER).
Na+1 + 1e- Na
• The negative ions go to the positive anode.
They undergo oxidation and lose electrons at the
anode (LEO).
Cl-1 Cl + 1e-
• Converts electrical energy into chemical energy
Opposites attract. The positive ion goes to the negative cathode and the negative ions go to the positive anode.
