Listening Part 3 tests your ability to listen for general ideas, specific details and opinions.
You may also have to listen for what two of the speakers agree or disagree on. Ideas are
often stated indirectly, so this task often requires inference, i.e. listening ‘between the
lines’, to get the right answers.
H o w t o g o a b o u t i t
One effective strategy for this task is to listen for the answer to the question, rather than
listening for the options. Listen carefully to what the speakers say, and once you have
understood, look at the options and choose the one closest to what you heard. This
strategy has a couple of advantages: 1) it’s easier to listen for one thing than four, and 2)
you are much less likely to get tricked by the distractors that have been carefully inserted
into the incorrect options.
