Abstract ThebiofilmformationofLegionelαpneumophilaonglaswasexaminedunder nutrientwaterf10wconditionat370C,40oC,and420C.Thethre-dimensional structures of 8・days biofilm were analyzed using confocal laser scaning microscopy.Itwasrevealedthatthepropertiesofthebiofilmswereinf1uenced significantly by temperature changes. Equivalent outer diameters of the microcolonies were 39μm at 370C,189μm at 400C and 359μm at 420C, respectively.Themostinterestingobservationwasthatthemicrocoloniesshow areasofholowing.Theholownesoremptinesis37%at370C,52%at400Cand 74%at420C,respectively.Theaveragenumberofbacteriapersinglecolonywas c.a.1x105at370C.Also,bacterialengthswerecomparedamongthebiofilmsin liquidf1ow,thoseinstaticliquidandthoseonBCYE-αagarplate.Intheliquid f1ow,theaveragebacterialengthwas4.4μmat370C,2.9μmat400Cand3.5μmat 420C,respectively,whileinthestaticliquidandonagarplatethelengthsincreased withtheriseoftemperature.Ourexperime川n此1tsresultsonthebiof日ilmformationofL.
