Many of the Buchenwald survivors in this photo
of the camp barracks had been in other camps and endured a Death March before their liberation
on April 4, 1945, by the US 89th Infantry Division. Buchenwald was the first Nazi camp liberated by US troops.
Survivor and Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, right, was a Buchenwald prisoner. He’s seen in the second tier from the bottom, seventh from left.
