Story of the
Starburst
at Canadore College
The Starburst shares the story of how Canadore College supports Indigenous learners. At the centre of the Starburst is heart, culture and a caring community. We chose the eagle to represent the many ways the First Peoples’ Centre ignites and nurtures the gifts of students and communities throughout the college.
HEART, CULTURE AND A CARING COMMUNITY OF FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS, ALUMNI AND PARTNERS nurture and help students along their journeys.
FLAGSHIP PROGRAMS are culturally and socially relevant, focusing on experiential learning and the dreams and needs of Indigenous students and communities. This means constantly carving out Indigenous learning spaces for students and community.
STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
ensure Indigenous communities are supported to deliver programs based on their goals, needs and current capacity. Community-led programs, including those run by innovative and resourceful Aboriginal Institutes, ensure students can study close to home.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH EMPLOYERS help students gain skills and experience as they transition seamlessly into meaningful work opportunities. Culturally-aware employers understand and respect Indigenous Peoples’ contributions.
GROWTH AND TRANSFORMATION across Canadore College, and regionally, provincially and beyond, means implementing all aspects of our ve-year strategy and continuing to act on the Truth and Reconcilation Commission’s Calls to Action. It also means a strong commitment to applied research that will continue to re ect and amplify the experiences and voices of Indigenous students, communities and partners.
