When you think about home you think about relationships, family, community, food, celebrations and traditions. All of those things are here at
the First Peoples’ Centre. In fact, it is a home for students and their families, as many of the students are already parents and bring their young and school-aged children with them.
Our Grandmother focuses on working with students on an individual level as well as with small groups. There are opportunities to learn more about culture and ceremonies, and to obtain practical support like assistance in nding schools and daycares. We do that by linking with community partners and First Nations communities.
The First Peoples’ Centre provides peer mentoring and peer tutoring and has a student retention and recruitment of cer who does a lot of programming directly geared to student needs. We go out and ask
students, “What is it we could be providing to help with your success and your studies?” In response, we provide a lot of activities that are family oriented and promote positive lifestyles.
