IWB000 - Cutting Activity - Cutting Out Shapes- Dashed Lines
Copyright 2018 Shelley Birkett-Eyles. Hemispheres Think Write Handwriting Programme
Objective: Cutting out a square - dashed lines
             Lesson Plan:
Learning to hold and handle scissors, whilst coordinating the cutting action to cut out shapes with a dashed boundary line.
1. On a table provide children with a copy of page 50 and 51 from the Activities Manual or off page IWB205 from the IWB programme and a selection of different scissors, including left and right hand scissors.
2. Demonstrate to the children how to hold and support the scissors in one hand, whilst holding the paper in the other hand.
3. Demonstrate the action of cutting along the dotted line and stopping at the corner and changing direction.
4. The children can then complete the worksheet independently.
More to Learn:
1. Asking children to change direction when
cutting challenges the use of the two hands together, whilst also bringing in the spatial direction and judgment of distance and position.
Support:
You can help the children by photocopying the image to be cut out onto card. This keeps the page more rigid and assists with coordination. Use adapted scissors or hand over hand support, so the children can feel the right movement pattern.
