P. 35
Objective: Copying Harriet the Cow’s starting shape
Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
Lesson Plan:
Linking Harriet the Cow with tall straight lines whilst practising the lines on Illustrated Paper for spatial position.
1. On a table provide the children with a copy of pages 30-31 from the Activities Manual or print off page IWB221/222 from the IWB programme and a selection of pencils.
2. Reinforce to the children using the movement for Harriet the Cow taught in Module 1: Building the Cognitive Framework, that she stands on the grass and reaches up to the clouds. Explain that Harriet the Cow’s head is there to show them where to start, go to and then end.
3. The children can then complete the worksheet independently.
Things to Consider:
1. Use the Wipe and Write Boards to
Support:
reinforce and help the children to practise writing the starting shape on Illustrated Paper.
2. Keep a record of each child’s performance. It represents the child’s readiness to
learn to write their letters.
