 Improving the Health of our Community
2018 - 2019 Grant recipients of the Nashoba Valley Health Care Fund
15-40 Connection
Awarded $15,000 to support the education program ‘3 Steps Detect’ program, aimed to save lives and reduce healthcare cost
of surviving cancer. This grant will target two important community audiences in the Nashoba Valley Region: High school students and Firefighters.
Advocates, Inc
Awarded $10,000 to support the program Advocates Community Counseling (ACC)
in Harvard, MA that provides quality, evidence-based mental health and substance use services to people of all ages living in Harvard and the surrounding towns.
Ashby Fire Department
Awarded $5,595 to purchase Rad-57 “SPO2 and SPCO devices that provide valuable information to responders about patients involved in suspected Carbon Monoxide poisoning. The high cost of these devices make it difficult for a smaller departments to afford to acquire them.
Boys & Girls Club of Lunenburg
Awarded $7,500 to support the program “Triple Play: Healthy Minds, Bodies, and Souls” that offers daily opportunities for members to participate in activities that
get them physically active, challenge their minds, and develop positive social skills and strong self-esteem.
Clear Path for Veterans
New England
Awarded $15,000 to support The Veteran Wellness & Self-Care training program. The purpose of the training is to enhance the skills of the staff who directly engage with Veterans daily, and to establish self-care workshops for Veterans.
Community Teamwork
Awarded $10,000 to support the Bone Builders program in the Groton Senior Center, which will help seniors 55 and older with critical social interaction, bone strengthening activities, increased balance, and nutritional education for healthy bones and senior wellness.
Eliot Community Human Services
Awarded $15,000 for the NAN Project – a school-based program aimed to change the culture around mental health, reduce stigma, and ultimately ensure that no student
turns to suicide. This grant will expand the program from 8th graders at The Bromfield School in Harvard to high school students and younger middle school students.
Gaining Ground
Awarded $5,000 for General support of
the Gaining Ground hunger relief and farm volunteer program. This program supports local farms that grow food, and engages people of all ages, and provides a vital resource for families struggling with food insecurity.
