        Spotlight on...
Sharon & Phil Ferraguto, Head Ushers

It takes many talented people to run the Plymouth
Philharmonic Orchestra. Celebrating 108 seasons of
success is a testament to the unwavering commitment
and expertise of each member of our Phil family. In
this edition, we are delighted to spotlight Sharon and
Phil Ferraguto, our head ushers since the 2021 season. We are so
grateful for their time and commitment to the organization.

How did you discover the Phil?
Before moving to Plymouth, we had the good fortune of attending several BSO
& Tanglewood concerts. When we moved to Plymouth in June 2017, we noticed
ads for the Phil’s 4th of July concert. Thinking that this outdoor concert would
be fun - though not up to par with the BSO - we decided to go. As we settled
into a spot on Cole’s Hill, we thought this would be a nice little community
orchestra; how bad could it be? After the first few bars of the opening number,
we looked at each other, surprised at the depth and quality of the music we
were hearing, and decided at that moment that we would like to find a way to
        become involved with the Phil.

What are your primary responsibilities as head ushers?
The ushers and the staff are the faces of the Phil to the concert-going public.
Our primary responsibilities include providing our volunteer ushers with
the information they need to be friendly representatives of the organization
while being comfortable and effective in their assignments. In addition to
assigning ushers to their posts, we provide information about the concerts,
their responsibilities, building safety, and the procedures for problem-solving
        should issues arise.

What do you enjoy most about working with the Phil?
The Phil is a warm and welcoming organization in which to “work” as a
volunteer. As long-term volunteers, we have learned that the Phil is much more
than the musicians and conductor performing for patrons. We have come to
understand and appreciate the behind-the-scenes work of remarkably talented
staff, who make it possible for the performances and associated events to run
so seamlessly. We are lucky to be associated with the staff and contribute to
        the Phil’s success.
