Rappelling in this manner utilizes an extension of the
       belay loop and an autoblock backup. Many incidents
       in North American rappelling could have been averted
       by this kind of setup.


       autoblock can be quickly deconstructed and stowed for
       future use. In the case of the lower and the rappel, it is
       prudent to use a locking carabiner to attach the auto-
       block to the belay loop, and a 5mm nylon loop is an
       effective size and diameter for hitching to most climb-
       ing ropes and static ropes.
