2.1.2 CRUISE LOCATIONS
Our research shows that just over 3 in 5 North American & Caribbean cruise travellers embark on cruises within the United States or Canada. However, there are many occurrences of passengers travelling to other countries within North American and the Caribbean region to start their cruise, most notably the Bahamas, where 11% of our sample started their cruise. Therefore, many passengers will have already been exposed to other Travel Retail channels on their trip prior to boarding the ship.
Once on the cruise, 9 in 10 travellers make at least one scheduled port call, the majority of which are within the Caribbean region. Overall, the Bahamas is the leading destination for port calls, with the United States and Mexico also key. Within the Caribbean region, the Bahamas, Aruba and Cayman Islands are the top three destinations for port calls.
The final destination for 9 in 10 North American & Caribbean cruise travellers is the same port at which their cruise began.
