2.1.2.2 SCHEDULED PORT CALLS
Industry Insider:
North American & Caribbean Cruise Duty & Tax Free Retail 2015
Our research shows that 9 in 10 North American & Caribbean cruise travellers make at least one scheduled port call during their trip. The Bahamas is the leading destination visited by almost a quarter, 23%, followed by the United States and Mexico. Overall, Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba, is the leading port visited, closely followed by the Mexican Island, Cozumel. Joint third are Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas and George Town, capital of the Cayman Islands.
Port stores present significant opportunities for retailers and brands to target travellers with a Duty / Tax Free offering that is differentiated from both the on-board offer and port stores in other locations. Port store sales can be driven by incorporating regional produce, location based souvenirs and gifts and Duty / Tax Free exclusives into product ranges. In addition, product displays and store design should reflect aspects of the local culture and heritage.
