2.1.2.1 SEA CRUISE DEPARTURES
Industry Insider:
North American & Caribbean Cruise Duty & Tax Free Retail 2015
On a nationality basis, our research shows that just over 1 in 5 Canadians and just under half of American (US) travellers depart from their country of residence:
 American (US): 48% depart from the US mainland (excluding Hawaii and Alaska). 11% depart from the Bahamas
 Canada: Just 22% depart from Canada, with the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) being the main country of departure at 46%
Given the high proportion of cruise passengers who travel internationally prior to starting their cruise, travellers are likely to have been exposed to a Duty / Tax Free offer prior to their arrival at a cruise port. It is therefore important that both and on-board and on-land port stores seek to differentiate their offering from other Travel Retail channels as well as from other cruise channel offerings, to provide a point of difference and generate interest. Drive this through cruise operator exclusives, limited edition products and unique promotional activity. Activities should also be considered on a location basis.
