2.1.2.3 FINAL DESTINATION
Industry Insider:
North American & Caribbean Cruise Duty & Tax Free Retail 2015
As with cruise origin, the final port destination for a high proportion of North American & Caribbean cruise travellers is outside North America. Furthermore, 1 in 10 travellers have a final destination different from the one in which their cruise began:
 American (US): 54% have a United States port as their final destination (47% have a mainland US port as their final destination).
 Canadian: Only 20% have a Canadian port as their final destination, with the highest proportion, 40%, returning to the US mainland.
1 in 10 end their cruise in the Bahamas, with various smaller cruise liners (some of which offer no on-board retail opportunities) originating and ending at the location; a further 4% finish their cruise in Mexico and Puerto Rico. As many passengers are still in ‘holiday mode’ when they disembark, port stores have an opportunity to target travellers with ‘Final Call’ promotions and cruise channel exclusives, advertised as the last chance for cruise related Duty / Tax Free products on their trip. This should be supported with advertising explaining that these products are not available through other Travel Retail channels.
