7.1.1 LEADING PRODUCTS PURCHASED
According to our findings, 40% of Asian cruise travellers make a purchase from an on-board convenience store during their trip. A fairly wide range of products are purchased from convenience stores, although three product types stand out as leading areas of interest:
 Food / snacks: 50% of those purchasing from on-board convenience stores purchase food / snack items. Operators should therefore ensure a wide range of snack based items and incorporate cruise location based variants.
 Postcards: Postcards are the second most widely purchased item. Ensure a good mix of location and ship based postcards. Potential to also provide an in-store postal service where travellers can return completed postcards for the store to send on their behalf.
 Magazines / books: Almost a third of those purchasing from a convenience store buy a magazine or book. Using traveller nationality data ensure the offering meets the needs of different languages, with domestic best-sellers included in the product range.
Other leading product types include toys, newspapers, suncream, greetings cards, and batteries.
