3.3.1 THE IMPORTANCE OF ON-BOARD SHOPPING
Although on-board shopping has a relatively low recall compared to some other on- board activities, such as entertainment services and bars & cafes, its potential as a key revenue driver is significant as nearly all visitors go onto make a purchase.
Our evidence suggests that on-board Duty and Tax Free Retail is particularly important to Chinese Mainland passengers with 88% rating Duty / Tax Free Retail availability as ‘very important’.
Therefore, whilst important to offer retail services on all cruises with high Asian passenger incidence, this is particularly the case on routes where high volumes of Chinese passengers are apparent.
Store operators and brands should also target Mainland Chinese passengers with tailored product ranges to maximise the success of the retail offering.
