Industry Insider:
Asian Cruise Traveller Duty & Tax Free Retail
4.2.3.2 STRONG PERFORMERS: EASE OF PAYMENT
Ease of payment is perceived as the most positive aspect of the Duty / Tax free offer, both on-board the cruise liner and at on-land port stores.
The positive ease of payment perception goes some way to offsetting the less positive perception of opportunities to sample.
EASE OF PAYMENT PRIORITY RATING: 4
The positive perception of ease of payment is not necessarily surprising on-board the ship considering many cruise services operate a cash free policy, where all purchases are charged to a specially designated account, paid for at the end of the trip.
On-land payment ease is also perceived very positively. However, on-land store operators should ensure payment is accepted in multiple currencies due to many sea cruises in the Asian region calling at multiple countries. This could be simplified by promoting usage of China Union Pay, potentially through discounts for usage.
ON-BOARD...
Strong positive perceptions are more common among Chinese Mainland travellers (79%), but much lower among Hong Kong (48%) and Singaporeans (56%). Less positive perceptions are also more common among older travellers and females.

ON-LAND...
With the on-board perception, the positivity surrounding on-land ease of payment is driven by the Chinese Mainland traveller (83% either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’), with positivity becoming lesser for Hong Kong (53%) and Taiwanese (58%) travellers.
