2.1.2.3 FINAL DESTINATION
As we have found with the cruise origin, approximately half of our European cruise traveller sample finish their cruise at a domestic port:
British: 56% have a UK port as their final destination with Southampton being the most prominent location
German: 31% have a German port as their final destination, with Hamburg the most prominent, followed by Kiel
Italian: 67% have an Italian port as their final destination, with Genoa the most prominent
The final port destination presents a key opportunity for Duty & Tax Free store operators to drive sales through promotional activity, such as ‘Final Call’ promotional activity. Furthermore, with the vast majority (86%) of European cruise travellers ending their cruise at the same port at which their service began, potential exists for port stores to drive awareness of product ranges and ‘Final Call’ promotional activities when the traveller is embarking on their cruise. This could be further supported by product reservation services or pre-order discounts with items then being collected when the traveller returns at the end of their trip.
