2.1.2.1 SEA CRUISE DEPARTURES
Our research shows that half of European cruise travellers depart on cruise services from their country of residence. However, with half travelling internationally to get to their departure port, there is clear potential for the traveller to be exposed to other Travel Retail offerings prior to their cruise taking place. Therefore, cruise Duty & Tax Free channel operators should look to differentiate from non-cruise Travel Retail opportunities and drive awareness of cruise offerings prior to travel to differentiate from external offerings and increase service interest.
 British: 56% depart from the UK with Southampton being by far the most prominent departure destination.
 German: Just 33% depart from Germany, with the Canary Islands being a significantly more prominent departure destination compared to the other nationalities included in our sample (18% compared to just 4% of British and 3% of Italians). Italy and Spain are also key locations for cruise departures among German cruise travellers.
 Italian: 65% depart from Italy with Genoa positioned as the leading departure port. Denmark also features highly among Italian cruise travellers for those embarking on services within the Nordic region.
