2.1.2 CRUISE LOCATIONS
Approximately half of European cruise travellers embark on cruise services departing from their country of residence. However, this is a much more prominent trend among Italian and British travellers, with 65% and 56% departing from a domestic port respectively, compared to German travellers, where two-thirds travel internationally to depart on their cruise. Key foreign departure locations include Italy, Spain, and the Canary Islands.
Of cruise travellers, 94% make at least one scheduled port call, with the geographic make-up of the Mediterranean region lending itself to numerous potential port visits, with Italian, French, Greek and Spanish locations being key. In the Nordic region, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish locations are the most prominent stop-off locations.
In terms of final destinations, the vast majority of European travellers end their cruise at the port they originated from. However, German cruise travellers are significantly more likely to end their cruise in a location different to the one in which they their service began.
