European Cruise Duty & Tax Free Retail 2016
5.2.4 FURTHER DUTY / TAX FREE SERVICE DEVELOPMENT: ON-BOARD
When on-board Duty & Tax Free store visitors were asked to identify any additional areas they would to have liked to have seen incorporated into the on-board service on their most recent cruise, three areas stand out as key to future service development. On-board operators should therefore look to prioritise these areas when looking to tailor product ranges and the overall service to better suit the needs of the European cruise traveller.
The most prominent development area, identified by almost a quarter of those identifying areas for development, is to increase the range of Fashion & Accessory based items with particular attention to increasing the range of price points:
“...perhaps a better range of everyday Fashion and Accessories rather than all top brands”
“...Shoes and generally lower prices on all products, some of the products are just too expensive”
“There needs to be more reasonably priced fashion.”
Expanding the Beauty category was also highlighted as a key area for development on-board the cruise liner, with particular emphasis on the requirement for leading brands:
“...an improved range of Beauty products”
“...more MAC and Lancome makeup”
In addition to specific categories, a number of travellers also indicated a requirement for a generally larger Duty & Tax Free retail offer on-board cruise liners in the European region, with one traveller stating, “A bigger shopping area was needed in general – it was very cramped, especially Alcohol”.
