The seven-day aver- age of active cases for Fresno County nearly doubled — from 890 to 1,514 — during last week's reporting period between May 17 and 24. The new daily case per 100,000 in population in- creased from 9.4 to 14.5, and the general positiv- ity rate grew from 5.5 to 8.2 percent.
Active COVID cases in Tulare County for the week jumped by 323, from 409 to 732. New daily cases grew from 4.6 per 100,000 to 8.8, and the positivity rate climbed from 3 percent to 5.2 percent.
Hospitalizations from COVID were on the rise in both counties. There were an additional 19 pa- tients (71 total) in Fresno County and an added 10 (to 27 total) in Tulare County. Still, there were no intensive care pa- tients in Tulare County and just eight in Fresno County.

As of the Tuesday, May 24 update, there were 235,569 total cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) out of 2,728,418 tests in Fresno County, with 2,763 deaths and 71 people hospitalized (8 in ICU).
482 cases (1,287 in region) while the Fowler region had 1,726 cases (1,700 in the community) and a continued 32 deaths through May 24. Squaw Valley (231 cases), Dunlap and Miramonte continued with a total case number of 590. The county has not done an update to these numbers for months.
Among Mid Valley Times cities in the county through May 24 (no updates for weeks), the Reedley region still has the most overall positive cases with 9,744 (5,600 in the city proper), and 95 deaths in data on the Fresno County Department of Public Health website.
In Tulare County, there were 107,084 confirmed cases (732 active, an increase of 323 for the week) of COVID-19 with 1,482 deaths and 26 people hospitalized (none in ICU) as of Tuesday, May 24. The breakdowns by cities/regions show 8,135 total cases in Dinuba, an adjusted 2,777 in Orosi, 1,405 in Cutler, 528 in Traver, 214 in the rural area south of Reedley and 61 in the area southeast of Orange Cove.
Through May 24 with no region updates, Sanger (including immediate adjacent rural areas) still shows 9,556 cases (the figure includes 7,500 in the city) and 91 deaths; Parlier stood at 3,800 cases (3,815 region) with 52 deaths and Orange Cove had 2,300 (3,694 regional) cases and 20 deaths. Reedley High Baseball
Will Gagnon went 1 for 3 with a home run — his team-high sixth of the season – and struck out eight in a complete- game effort as the Pirates dropped a 5-3 decision to Central High in a section Division II first round game on May 17. The senior right-hander batted .462 and led RHS with 43 hits and 36 RBI, and was the team’s top pitcher with a 12-3 record, 1.73 earned run average and 136 strikeouts with just 12 walks.
