The Dinuba Sentinel
Sentinel staff report
At the first State Qualifier for speech of the season, Orosi High School, in keeping with a new long-standing tradition for the school, did extremely well.
In a competition with 16 Valley schools, including Stockdale High, Bakersfield High, Edison High, Bullard High, University High School-Fresno, Clovis North, etc., representing 206 total students at the competition (13 of which were from Orosi), many of our Speech and Debate students managed to secure spots to the State Championship Tournament in May at Cal State Long Beach.
Orosi High had five students qualify for State, and tied with Lemoore High School for the most students in the Valley
headed to State after the first qualifier. Out of the 13 students representing Orosi High, eight advanced to the semi-finals of the Valley and six advanced to the final rounds.
The students who placed were: In Oratorical Interpretation, sophomore Milca Altamirano Torres placed 8th in the Valley and is the 2nd alternate to State. Sophomore Alex Widman placed 6th and is advancing to State.
In Expository Speech, junior Jaxon Tee Sy placed 5th in the Valley and is advancing to State.
In Programmed Oral Interpretation, junior Alexis Delgado placed 8th in the Valley and is the 2nd alternate to State. Junior Destiny Perez placed 3rd in the Valley and is advancing to State.
In Dramatic Interpretation,
junior Fabian Lopez placed 6th in the Valley and is the 1st alternate to State. Junior Erick Lua placed 4th in the Valley and is advancing to State. Sophomore Yessenia Sanchez placed 3rd in the Valley as is advancing to State!
After another stellar performance by the Orosi High Speech and Debate team, coach Karson Kalashian, assistant coach Delgado, and all the members of the Orosi Cardinal Speech and Debate program thanked the Orosi High teachers and admininistration team, the District Office, as well as the School Board for their support.
“We are proud to continue to help our students become powerful communicators and ready to compete in a global economy,” said Kalashian.
